Christ Lutheran Church in Viewmont

Christ Lutheran Church of Germantown (Viewmont) is among the oldest and longest serving congregations in North America. In the Upstate NY Synod, Christ Lutheran Church (founded 1710) is the fourth oldest congregation, behind First Lutheran Church in Albany (1649; the oldest Lutheran congregation in the Western hemisphere still in operation) and Zion Lutheran Church in Athens (1703). Two other churches in our Parish are not far behind: St. John’s Lutheran Church in Manorton (1715) and St. Thomas Lutheran Church in Churchtown (1730).
As concerns our Parish, it must also be noted that Lutheran baptisms were occurring in the Ancram area as early as the 1740s.
